Justin Doute is a percussionist at the Denver School of Arts, where he also played trumpet in the Concert Band in the 8th and 9th grade. He then began to focus on percussion in the Jazz Link Band. Justin played percussion in the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and the Jazz Workshop Orchestra where in 11th and 12th grade he was the percussion section leader.
He has been under private instruction since July 1997 (under different instructors) for several different percussion instruments, and also studied trumpet between April 2002 and May 2004. He has participated in the: Denver Young Artist Orchestra, Colorado Youth Symphony Band, Denver Citywide Symphony Band, Denver Citywide Marching Band, Blue Nights Indoor Percussion Ensemble, Colorado Honor Band, and the Colorado Conservatory for Jazz Arts.
Justin's Honor Band achievements include the: University of Boston, Julliard Summer Percussion Festival, Nation Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, Berkley Percussion Festival, University of Colorado Honor Band, Colorado All-State Symphonic Band, and Western Day of Percussion in Grand Junction.
His awards for outstanding musicianship include the Aurora Symphony Concerto Competition where he placed 2nd in 2005, the Colorado Youth Symphony Concerto Competition where he placed fourth. He was presented with the "Outstanding Musicianship Award" by Denver School of Arts Band Director David Hammond. This is the highest possible award given to students who show excellence in instrumental music in the Denver School of the Arts Band Department. Justin was the first student to receive this award as a Junior in high school.
Justin’s college auditions include: Boston Conservatory where he has been accepted, Denver University (also accepted), Boston University (also accepted), New England Conservatory, Julliard School of Music, and Manhattan School for Music.
